I am one of the 'supervisors' on the Gran Canaria Info web site. I note that
you are looking for informaiton to build up your site. I am not a wheelchair
user, but I was on holiday in the Riu Palace Meloneras hotel a couple of
months ago and I have to say it was one of the most wheelchair user friendly
places I have ever seen. Everything is catered for, including access to the
pools. Several lifts and ramps to all parts of the hotel make this a very
acceptable location. A number of taxis in Gran Canary are now fitted with
wheelchair lifts so transfer to and from the airport is not a problem. The
rooms in the hotel are spacious and easy to navigate. There are also disabled
facilities in the public restrooms throughout the hotel and grounds. We
booked through Thomson A La Carte and although the holiday was more expensive
than usual, the standard of the hotel, facilities and food was worth the
extra. While we were there, there were at least 25 wheelchair users which
suggests that the hotel (and the chain) properly understand the difficulties
often encountered and have tried (I think successfully) to address the needs
of this group of holiday makers.
Hope this is of use.
